Start of term signals £70m of work for contractors

13 September 2010

At the start of the new school term around £70m worth of construction projects have been released to the market through the Partnerships for Schools Contractors' Framework.

Academy and school rebuilding projects in three local authority areas are being offered to panel members: two for the framework covering the south of England, and one for the north. These projects are expected to select a bidder in the New Year.

The three areas with new Academies and schools are:

South

North

Amongst the projects are the extension of West London Academy in Ealing and two Academies which are due to be delivered on the same site in Brent.

Up until the end of the last school year (July 2010) seven Academies had been built through the Contractors’ Framework; nine more Academies are due to open through the framework this autumn.

Notes to Editors:

In 2009, PfS announced the 15 companies which secured a place on the £4 billion Contractors' Framework to procure the design and build of Academies and other educational facilities in local authorities.

The Contractors' Framework operates across two discrete geographical areas. The first area is made up of the North West, the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands and the West Midlands; the second is made up of the East of England, the South West, the South East and London.
