Schools Capital Allocations for 2011-12

The Secretary of State for Education has now announced details of capital
funding to schools and local authorities for 2011-12. The allocation of over
£2bn includes:
- £800m of basic need funding to local authorities to provide school
places where needed in their area, in all categories of taxpayer funded
schools;
- £858m of maintenance capital to local authorities to support the
needs of the schools that they maintain and for the Sure Start
Children’s Centres in their area;
- £196m of Locally Coordinated VA Programme capital to support the
maintenance capital needs of voluntary aided schools;
- £185m of Devolved Formula Capital for schools.

Details of the allocations of basic need and maintenance funding to each
authority, and indicative amounts of the capital allocations for their
schools were sent to local authorities on 13 December.
